The future time perspective (FTP) is defined as the ability to project oneself into future time. It is known to be an important cue for motivational, emotional and cognitive changes with advancing age. As we age, FTP is perceived to be increasingly limited. The Future Time Perspective Scale (FTPS) measures FTP but it has never been validated in the French language, which limits its use and interpretation. The objective of this study is to propose a psychometric validation of this tool in French using a transcultural validation procedure. The validation process, carried out with a young and elderly population, reveals good psychometric properties. Data demonstrate a structure in two factors (unlimited and limited FTP). The FTPS offers to the community of French researchers and clinicians a new tool for investigating the future time dimension in relation to the psychological functioning of individuals.
