Associative Norms for 243 french Words in a Population of French-speaking Adults
This study presents the associative norms for 243 words of the French language in 713 participants of French mother tongue, including 116 words which are not included in other studies. Unique associations were collected from a free association task with a minimum of 100 responses per stimulus. The results are presented in the form of associative norms for the 237 words having obtained 10% frequency for at least one of their associative responses and in the form of an associative dictionary for the 6 other words. Our study allows the comparison of the frequencies of 127 words identified in common with other studies. 109 words present some form of ambiguity, either due to polysemy, homographic homonymy, or both. By comparing the existing ambiguity with the ambiguity recognized in our sample, we find good lexical coverage in the associative responses.
